Bookshelf Tag

I’d like to thank A Dreamer’s Library for leaving the tag open to whoever would like to participate.

I shall do the same!

Now, on to the questions!

How Many Bookshelves Do You Have?

Officially, I have three bookshelves. Unfortunately, the number of books I own exceeds the shelves that I have. I’ve had to put some thought into how I’m going to store them. Finally, I came up with a solution that solves most of the space-related problems.

The three official shelves are full from end to end and below them are three rows of books stretching from wall to wall. Those extra three rows are stacked on top of each other. Lastly, there is an additional partial-row lined horizontally, sitting just in front of the aforementioned stacks.

How Many Books Are on Your Shelves? Or How Many Books Do You Have?

There are 222 books on the shelves. This figure doesn’t include the Charles Dickens collection sitting at the back of the wardrobe (because I don’t have enough space for them otherwise and I don’t want to get rid of them) or the titles listed in the cartridge for “100 Classic Novels for the DS.”

How Do You Organise Your Books?

I alphabetize the authors and then I sort collections according to chronology, unless there are multiple authors within a series of books. I sort those particular books according to series title. Basically, Star Trek novels would all be sorted under S for Star Trek and Doctor Who novels would be sorted under D — because the authors are numerous.

What Is the Oldest Book on Your Shelves?

There are two interpretations that could be read here. I’ve chosen to interpret the question as “which book has been on the shelf the longest.”

The answer to that question would be Interview with the Vampire. It was the first book I owned. I started reading Anne Rice novels when I was nine and had been borrowing them from a sibling, but Interview with the Vampire is the first book I purchased and kept.

What Is the Newest Book on Your Shelves?

The most recent acquisition is Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows. I ordered it online a few weeks ago and was delighted to add it to the collection. I’m looking forward to reading it when I have a chance!

What Is the Longest Book on Your Shelves?

The longest book I own is George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones. I still haven’t read it. I’ll get around to it…eventually; it’ll be a while. I have a LOT of books on the To Read pile.

What is the Shortest Book You Own?

It has to be The Cay, which was written by Theodore Taylor. The book is a slender slip of a thing, and would disappear in an instant among all the other books were it not for the notable colour of the spine. The edition I have is a blue colour — stark against the darker colours of most of the collection.

What Is the Predominant Genre on Your Shelves?

The most predominant genre is fantasy, which I adore. I love fictional universes. I love magic and swordsmanship. I love the allegorical nature of fantasy, and how compelling such books can be. But I do own and read other genres.

Have You Done a Bookshelf Tour?

I’ve never done a bookshelf tour. Honestly, I didn’t even know bookshelf tours were a thing until I read the question here in this list.

Go on A Random Number Generator and Talk About the Book That Corresponds with That Number?

The random number generator selected the number nine and the corresponding book on the shelves is Keri Arthur’s Full Moon Rising, which is a book that I loved immensely, though I haven’t read it in a long time.

(That must be remedied as soon as possible.)

Full Moon Rising is the first in a series set in Melbourne. The novel (and the rest of the series) is focused on a woman named Riley, who has a rare mix of vampire and werewolf heritage. She and her twin brother — Rhoan — work for the Directorate of Other Races.

The Directorate of Other Races is an organisation created to police the supernatural races and protect humans from supernatural individuals. Rhoan is an assassin for that organisation. Riley, however, is an office worker…until her brother goes missing and she has to find him.

Do You Have Fan Merchandise or Any Other Decorations on Your Bookshelf?

I do have fandom merchandise. Unfortunately, most of them are stored in drawers rather than being on display, since I have to put a lot of thought into what takes up space on the shelves. Fandom merchandise that I own include:

  • BBC Merlin figurines (Arthur and Merlin)
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer postcard
  • Disney socks
  • Disney pyjamas
  • Doctor Who t-shirt
  • Famous Witch and Wizard cards
  • Funko Pop! Figures
  • Godric Gryffindor’s Sword (Letter-Opener)
  • Harry Potter postcards
  • Harry Potter deck of cards
  • Harry Potter wands
  • Harry Potter keyrings
  • Harry Potter socks
  • Harry Potter t-shirt
  • Harry Potter pyjamas
  • Hogwarts tumblers
  • Hogwarts parchment
  • Hogwarts notebook
  • Hufflepuff wax and seal set
  • Hufflepuff scarf
  • Hufflepuff gloves
  • Hufflepuff beanie
  • Hufflepuff tie
  • Hufflepuff robes
  • Hufflepuff pins
  • Hunger Games emblem
  • Marvel pins
  • Once Upon a Time t-shirt
  • Pokémon cap
  • Pokémon DS games
  • Pokémon pins
  • Pokémon cards
  • Pokémon folders
  • Pokémon deck protectors
  • Star Trek: Flux card game
  • Star Wars t-shirt
  • Supernatural flask
  • Supernatural messenger bag
  • Supernatural t-shirts

You know…I didn’t realise how much merchandise I had until I started to list them here. I’m not even certain I wrote down all of them. One day, I’ll have to go to the effort of making an inventory, just so that I can keep track of what I have!

Show Us Your Bookshelf!

Here we go! I had to take two separate photos in the end so that all the books on the shelves could be seen.
